Welcome to Verein für Höhlenkunde München e.V.

There are still undiscovered places on our planet: abysses millions of years old, remote corners beneath the earth's surface, deep inside the rock. Caves remain hidden and invite discovery. As cave explorers, we have made this our task. To document these underground worlds, we work together as an association and in cooperation with regional and national organisations.

Cave exploration: a broad field with many disciplines

Everything starts with the systematic search for new caves, followed by surveying and careful documentation. Every caver encounters this on trips, whether on major expeditions into wild shafts or on small afternoon explorations in nearby terrain.

Literature

DER SCHLAZ is the club journal of VHM and has been published regularly since May 1970, currently twice a year (in March and October), usually with 64 pages.

The articles cover club life as well as current research in the association's working area in the Bavarian Alps. They are complemented by articles on general cave-related topics from Germany and abroad, including specialist subjects such as rescue, surveying, diving techniques, cave photography, and much more.

Since 2017, the journal has been published in full colour and presents underground worlds in high-quality photo series.

VHM also maintains its own library, which is constantly growing and aims to provide as complete a collection as possible of relevant cave literature.
